Age Concern Hawke’s Bay has joined other local community organisations, including iwi and Pacific organisations, and is working with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to support people in their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

What is a Community Connector?

A Community Connector is your go to support person while you are isolating and if you need, we can also provide support while you get back to your life activities after isolating and beyond.

We have a Community Connector in Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay, and our Age Concern partners in Napier also have a Community Connector.

The role of a Community Connector is determined by the needs of the people and family/whānau they are supporting and may include some of the following activities:

  • supporting people and whānau directly by delivering food and essential items
  • assisting families, through advocacy and information, with accessing their immediate and longer-term income entitlements through MSD and other wider services (i.e. housing, education and employment).
  • addressing immediate hardship, especially where someone may not be entitled to receive MSD support and support them to access wider services and resources that support their wellbeing
  • access health and safety programmes, including mental health, addiction services, anger management or family violence services.

We can also provide support to people who aren’t isolating but would like to be prepared and to access supports to improve their ability to self-isolate at home. We can support you to make a Covid-19 Isolation plan.

To find out more about getting ready to isolate call your local office or email our Community Connectors here.
