Falls are the most common cause of injury in older people. On third of people over the age of 65 years fall each year. Half of all people over 80 years fall each year.
10% of community dwelling people aged 75 years and over will have a fracture or require hospitalisation requiring a fall.
Falls by older people are almost always associated with weakened leg muscles and poor balance.
A significant proportion of falls can be prevented.
